We don't often see "Helen Longs", one of LBSC's more complex designs for a three cylinder 4-8-4, described at time as "for the more experienced builder". This didn't deter the builder of this one, who started project in 1937 - it must make it one of the longest duration projects we've ever had in! It latterly passed to his son, during which time it had an unfortunate few months in a wet shed which has left varying degrees of corrosion in various places - it's a great shame, as the underlying work has been done to a high standard.
Work to date comprises rolling chassis, well-advanced copper boiler with smokebox, machined cylinders, expansion links with mounting brackets, eccentric straps, sheaves and rods.
