A finely made Allchin in 2 inch scale, scaled up from the popular 1 1/2 inch scale design.
Finished to a high standard throughout, complete with scale tools (including a key for the toolbox padlock) and a beautifully made glazed library case.
Unsteamed from new, this is an older engine - possibly fifty years if the "registration number" refers, as we believe, to the build date. Fit and finish of the motionwork and gearing is excellent, the engine turns over freely - there's some video of it running on air here.
Paintwork and lining was originally executed to a high standard; there is some age-related wear and minor scratches around the rear offside tender.
In deference to its age and condition we have made no attempt either to test the boiler or steam the engine - however the copper boiler appears well made with neatly flanged plates and good solder penetration.
The final couple of photographs opposite show the engine, along with a "standard" 1 1/2 inch scale Allchin and a diminutive 1 inch scale version which has recently come in. Their weights graphically demonstrate the cube law with increasing scale - the small engine can be carried in a box under one arm; this 2 inch scale version is a two man lift.
