2 inch scale Durham & North Yorkshire Traction Engine - stock code 10424

A 2 inch scale Durham & North Yorkshire agricultural engine to the John Haining design, the work of an experienced engineer with a fine Allchin and several excellent stationary engines to his credit.

We sold this one to a long-time customer back in 2022, it's recently come back as part of a small collection of 2 inch scale road engines. Words and pictures are from 2022, it's in much the same condition now, although with repaired crankshaft and replacement lubricator.

We've steamed the engine - it runs well enough in either direction, with the following noted:

  • There is some runout in the built up crank, evidenced in the main shafts and flywheel
  • Some wear in motionwork and crank bearings
  • Water gauge seals leaking – replaced
  • Injector steam pipe blocked – cleared and injector tested
  • Water pump feeding intermittently – serviced and tested
  • Safety valve open and close reliably, but accumulate – they need servicing or replacing
  • Lifting link rubs on boiler cladding in full forwards gear
