A 2 inch scale Fowler DCC Showmans road locomotive, this one was being built as one of a pair - a proper "old school" engineer build with one piece turned crankshaft, split eccentric sheaves, beautifully rivetted belly tanks and horns and finely machined and finished connecting rods.
Other than some light surface rust the engine has been stored well this last thirty-six years, a generous coating of silver paint over many of the larger components, including differential, final drive gear and firebox has helped.
Complete with a pack of black and white photographs of other builder's engines to the same design and some very well thumbed drawings.
If you need some inspiration to get in the workshop, we have a particularly fine example in stock at the moment, words and pictures here.
