For those of you interested in building something just a little bit different, an experimental six cylindered all-geared drive Pacific. The work of an experienced builder (we had his 3 1/2 inch gauge LNER A8 and Paris-Orleans 4-8-0 in last year), the chassis is well-made and has been run on air.
Cylinders are in gunmetal, arranged in three pairs, each driving onto a crankshaft with reduction-geared drive down to the main axle. Slide valves are fitted, actuated by slip eccentric gear.
There is a part-built copper boiler of combustion chamber, wide firebox design which looks similar to LBSC's "Hielan Lassie". Work to date on it is good and comprises barrel and firebox wrapper, inner firebox with combustion chamber, flanged plates to complete and a set of tubes.
I would love to see this engine finished, in particular it would be interesting to see, given the size of boiler, number of cylinders and reduction gearing drive, just what it would pull.
