A 3 ½ inch gauge GNR Atlantic
to LBSC’s “Maisie” design – one of his best, in my opinion (and I speak
as an ex-Maisie owner and retain a great affection for them – they’re
free-steaming, feisty little critters that have an amazing turn of speed, much
like their full-sized forebears).
This one is an older engine,
paint is presentable, motion is pretty good with some wear. The silver-soldered
boiler is by Western Steam and is in good condition, fitted with a pair of
radiant superheaters. Working pressure is 80psi, feed is by axle and hand pumps.
Gunmetal cylinder with slide
valves actuated by Stephenson’s gear, pole reverser in cab. Mechanical
lubricator. Mercifully LBSC’s specified steam brake is not fitted – I’ve
never found one that could slow the engine, nor one that didn’t scald your
fingers in use.
