An exhibition quality LNER A1/1 Pacific, Thompson's rebuild of Gresley's A1 "Great Northern". Largely the work of a professional model engineer, a man whose work I admire (responsible, amongst many other fine models, for the 4 inch gauge Garrett traction engine I sold a couple of years ago, one of the finest agricultural engines I've driven), it is beautifully made - fit and finish is excellent throughout. The locomotive features three cylinders, as per prototype, with separate Walschaert's gear for each piston valve.
The engine was completed four years ago, since when it has been in store - it is new and unsteamed. The purpose built acrylic case sits on an oak base, the locomotive is on a length of exhibition track.
Currently bringing a significant presence to our library although, having recently acquired a large Mogul for the house and working on a way to keep a spectacular GWR Saint, not sure how long before Mrs P decides I've exceed the toy quota for this year...
