A well-made 3 1/2 inch gauge LNER V2 to the Clarkson design, it requires minor completion work to the locomotive, provision of a tender and painting to finish.
The silver-soldered combustion chamber copper boiler is fitted with superheaters - it's exceptionally well made and, but for the absence of a maker's stamp, could be mistaken for a commercially made job. Three gunmetal cylinders with slide valves, outside cylinders actuated by Walschaert's gear, the inside valve deriving its motion from the pair of outside valves through Holcroft's ingeniously-conceived 2 to 1 lever underneath the front running plate. It runs beautifuilly in forward gear, slightly choppy in reverse.
An easy project to finish, producing a good-looking and, these days, rather rare engine in this gauge. If you want some inspiration, I had a superb one in a year or two back, there are pictures in the archive here.
