I sold this engine earlier in the year to a man who's probably got more engines than me (although admittedly many of them have come from here in the first place) - it's just come back along with a 3 1/2 inch gauge GWR Prairie in exchange for the 5 inch gauge King Arthur we showed at the Alexandra Palace show.
Unusual to find a three cylinder Midland Compound in any
gauge (we’ve had two cylinder versions in 3 ½ and 5 inch gauge, there’s a
10 ¼ inch version sitting in the workshop at the moment) - this is a
particularly well made example with nicely done detailing including dummy
Wakefield lubricators and valve tail rod covers.
Silver soldered superheated copper boiler, 80psi working
pressure, feed by twin mechanical pumps driven from return cranks on the rear
driving wheels, injector and auxiliary hand pump. Gunmetal cylinders with valves
actuated by Stephenson’s gear with screw reverser in cab, drain cocks rod
operated. Steam brake.
The engine was in steam last week, it runs exceptionally
well.
