A particularly well-built example of Martin Evans' freelance, LNER- inspired 2-6-2T "William". The engine is around 90% complete, comprising an air-running chassis with professionally-built silver-soldered copper boiler. The builder is an experienced engineer who, having already built an exceptional 5 inch gauge "Sweet Pea", began this locomotive as a smaller, more manageable engine. Fit and finish of all parts is very good, there are various extras added to the original Evans design, including cylinder drain cocks and brakes.
Work remaining includes:
Finish machining right hand eccentric rod
Boiler fittings
Boiler cladding
Rear bunker panel (for which a piece of 20swg brass is included)
Smokebox plumbing and superheaters
There is a complete, clean set of drawings and a copy of the construction manual.
