Earlier this year I sold a newly-completed 3 inch Burrell, built by a gentleman in Sussex to an extremely high standard - his other work included a beautiful Burrell Gold Medal tractor, a pair of Allchin 1 1/2 inch agriculturals and most of the engines that Stuart have produced. This is his other Burrell, another 3 inch scale engine, built to the same super standard and rallied this year. Click here to see the other Burrell and for further information on the builder.
Silver-soldered copper boiler, feed by injector and mechanical pump with bypass. Twin pop-action safety valves with dummy Ramsbottom-type valve fitted over the top. Water lifter fitted to tender. Single cylinder engine with slide valve actuated by Stephensons valve gear, pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical lubricator. Drain cocks rod actuated from footplate.
Two speed road gears, with winch and differential mounted inboard of the nearside rear wheel. Rubber-tyred wheels which are effective on grass and particularly quiet and smooth-running on hard surfaces, where the extra diameter gives a useful increase in gearing.
Without doubt the most complete rally outfit I've ever bought, the engine comes complete with set of firing irons, electric blower and driving trolley with Ackermann steering and stainless steel water tank to feed the injector. The whole lot is transported in a well thought out purpose-built road trailer, fitted with tie-down rings, fitted ratchet straps and ramps. The trailer has a tonneau cover which covers the engine during transport and a hard fibreglass top which fits securely when the engine is back in the workshop at the end of the season. The engine can be loaded and unloaded easily single-handed, the trailer is very easy to manoeuvre.
Like all this builder's other models, this engine is beautifully made, thoroughly well sorted and a delight to drive. With a current club certificate, it is ready to rally.
