A particularly well built 3 inch scale Burrell to the popular Plastow design. Machining is done to a high standard, fit and finish of the valve gear is good - the engine runs well on air,
there's a clip of it running outside the workshop here. Paintwork is is well done in Burrell green with maroon wheels.
The engine has come to us unsteamed from new. Boiler is in steel, well made with good plate preparation and weld penetration - we've given it an ultrasonic thickness before conducting a twice working pressure hydraulic test which was satisfactory, however we have no previous documentation for the boiler. Firebox is bushed for a fusible plug, there is currently a blanking plug fitted which will require replacement.
The engine has a variety of small jobs requiring attention - it needs a new offside clack, pressure gauge and, most likely, an injector (the original is home made to the drawings - I'm sure somebody got one to work once but we've never seen it! We normally fit a small commercial horizontal injector).
