A 3 inch Burrell, built to the Plastow design between 1978-85. Nicely done, it has languished for many years in storage on the builder's demise.
Silver soldered copper boiler, feed by mechanical pump driven from crankshaft, injector and a substantial hand pump mounted on the footplate. Slide valve cylinder, Stephenson's valve gear with pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical and displacement lubricators, governor. Rod operated drain cocks. Two road speeds with differential and winch behind nearside rear wheel.
Braving the elements this morning (I got soaked actually) I steamed the engine for the first time in many years, judging from the rather overpowering smell of burning dust in the chimney. It steams quickly, the mechanical and hand pumps both work, the injetor sounds like it will with a quick wash (it's one of Terry Baxter's Double Bs which go well when clean).
The engine now needs a variety of bits and pieces doing, some repainting and a serious clean. Complete with a driving trolley.
