Rarely modelled in 3 inch scale, this is a three speed double crank compound Fowler road locomotive - a large engine in full size, it's make for an imposing sized miniature.
Commercially built welded steel boiler with expanded tubes by Gloucester Steam & Traction, 2004. 150psi working pressure, feed by mechanical pump and injector. Cast iron compound cylinder block with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear, pole reverser, mechanical lubricator. Three speed, four shaft transmission with differential, winch fitted behind nearside rear wheel, fairleads on tender. Bonded rubber tyres to road wheels.
Goes without saying that it's very large for a 3 inch scale engine - 60 inches long and getting on for twice the weight of the ubiquitous 3 inch Burrell agricultural (the last 3 inch Fowler we had in showman's specification scaled nearly 600 pounds).
The engine has recently been through our workshop where it's been re-tubed, boiler has had a full cladding-off inspection with ultrasonic survey and twice working pressure hydraulic test. All back together it's been steam tested this week, there's some video of it running in the yard this morning here.
