A 4 1/2 inch scale Foden steam wagon, built from a kit supplied by Steam Traction World - there's a complete specification for the model on their website here. Started in 2009, it was completed in October 2012 and has only been test steamed in the builder's paddock - it's in as-new condition throughout.
Steel boiler with expanded tubes, 140psi working pressure, feed by injector and mechanical pump, driven through a 2:1 reduction drive from the crankshaft. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear, pole reverser. Twin mechanical lubricators.
Twin interconnected water tanks, with level glass mounted on the nearside of the front tank.
Three speed transmission by chain to the rear axle with differential. The engine runs on pneumatic tyres, hydraulic brakes.
The engine was well put together, the builder assembled one of STW's 4 inch scale Burrells at the same time. When finished it was professionally painted to a high standard before being lined out.
Complete with unused spark arrester and extension chimney for steam-raising.
We've had this one in steam this afternoon - there's a short clip of it here, taken just before Ashley had a run around the estate on it.
