A superb 4 inch scale Garrett agricultural engine, professionally-built on commission by a highly-respected modelmaker whose other work includes a wide range of locomotives and stationary engine. Complete in 2005 and used infrequently since the engine is in as-new condition throughout and comes complete with a logbook of its steamings from new.
Welded steel boiler by Bell Boilers, expanded steel tubes, fusible plug. Working pressure 120psi, twin Ramsbottom safety valves, feed by mechanical pump and injector. Two three-cock water gauges. Cast iron cylinder, slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical and displacement lubricators fitted on cylinder block along with a governor and whistle.
Two road gears with differential, winch behind nearside rear wheel, rubber tyres fitted to steel bands over strakes – the tyres are unmarked, the engine has run to date in the owner's back garden, the tyres appear never to have seen a hard surface.
One of finest agricultural engines I've seen, fit and finish throughout is to a high standard, detailing is impeccable, from the neatly done taper pins locking the lifting arms of the valve gear to the prototypically-correct bearing caps with thin lock nut and radiused studs ends all showing an equal length.
The engine has been painted and hand lined to an excellent standard, the engine comes complete with spark arrester and driving seat which mounts on the tender.
