An ancient four inch gauge engine, I think it probably dates from the 1920s.
Underneath the gruesome bright green polyurethane paint, there is a nicely made engine - possibly a commercial product - featuring nice details such as split gunmetal axleboxes and working leaf springs. It's got a spirit-fired fire tube boiler and is complete with a length track with brass Vignoles rail and an open wagon.
The tender has managed to avoid the recent paintjob and shows both "Southern" lettering and another, possibly earlier set of marks.
I think this is a handsomely proportioned engine, deserving of rather more sympathetic treatment than it has had recently - it would restore into a fine display model.
