A 4 inch scale model of a 4nhp light steam tractor Burrell built in the latter part of the nineteenth century, the original engine being used in their own works throughout its life until broken up.
Vertical steel firetube boiler, 100psi working pressure, feed by injector and mechanical pump. Twin cylinder simple expansion engine, cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser. Mechanical lubricator.
Two speed transmission with chain drive to rear wheels, worm and quadrant steering.
We've been really impressed by the way this one goes - so much so that Ashley used it for Boston Steam Rally a couple of weekends ago. It steams freely and is a fast, powerful engine - on the road it's quick, the rubber tyres making it quiet and comfortable, steering is very precise, the ball valve regulator provides light, sensitive control - the quintessential Gentleman's Light Sporting Tractor.
Ideally it wants a small driving trolley - really just a seat with a pair of wheels underneath - although at a pinch you can just about perch on the back and drive it sitting "side saddle".
