He started out building a 4 1/2 inch scale Foden and, having enjoyed that project, went on to build a Burrell SCC agricultural, single cylinder steam roller and this engine, all from the same manufacturer.
A man whose interest lay in the workshop rather than on the rally field, only the Foden was ever fired, the other three engines remaining unsteamed after completion.
An imposing engine, it tips the scales at around three quarters of a ton, length overall is just under seven feet. The boiler is pressed to 180psi, the engine running as a true compound.
Since arriving with us our resident valve gear wizard has worked his magic setting valves and eccentrics - the engine now runs well on air down to low speed in either direction.
Offered brand new and unsteamed, the engine will require commissioning before use.
