A well-made 4 inch scale Foster traction engine, built in
1999 and little-used since – the last boiler certificate when it arrived was
dated 2003, since then the owner had only pushed it out of the workshop
occasionally to tick it over in the drive, the rubber tyres remain in as-new
condition.
Welded steel boiler with expanded tubes, fitted with
fusible plug, 120psi working pressure. Twin water gauges with protectors,
Ramsbottom safety valves. Feed by injector and mechanical pump with
bypass. Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson’s
gear, mechanical lubricator. Two speed transmission with differential, rubber
tyres on steel bands fitted to wheels, winch behind nearside rear wheel.
We had this one in steam in the snow yesterday for the
boiler inspector- here's
a video .Steve and I had a drive around, strangely enough nobody
else wanted a go. I rate this one, it’s nice to drive and runs well.
