An early stage 5 inch gauge "Achilles", a handsomely proportioned freelance 0-6-0 tank locomotive to the Dick Simmonds design, bigger sister to his four-coupled
"Ajax".
Work to date comprises:
- rolling chassis with coupling rods, weighshaft assembly, axle pumps and expansion links fitted
- machined cylinder assemblies including valve chests, end covers and slide valves - one side fitted to chassis
- valve gear erected on one side, loose parts for much of the gear for the other side
- pump eccentric sheaves (fitted to rear axle), straps and rods
- smokebox with chimney and door castings
- assorted small parts and castings, including dome
Still a lot to do, however this could be got up to air-running stage with little extra expenditure other than time in the workshop. Castings and drawings are available from Reeves.
If you need some inspiration, there are pictures in the archive of a good example we sold back in 2020.
