We've known this engine for some years and watched its progress, a fastidious build by a highly experienced model engineer. Regular readers will have seen other engines from his collection featured on these pages, including the LSWR T6 sold recently, fine 3 inch scale Atkinson wagon, 5 inch gauge Class 66 and 2 inch scale Fowler Showmans road locomotive.
Work to date is to an excellent standard throughout, the builder reckons to have spent over 2000 hours on the build thus far.
The commercially made boiler was supplied new by Blackgates at the start of the project in the 1990s, it's complete with original manufacturer's test certificate.
The pictures opposite show everything included, including:
The locomotive is up to rolling chassis stage, with cylinders fitted. Tender chassis is largely complete and rolling, with much of the superstructure fabricated.
Complete with eight bound volumes of "Engineering in Miniature" magazine, covering the original construction series.
