The locomotive has come from a customer along with a 3 inch scale Atkinson wagon which he'd bought from us some years ago. It has seen recent club use, the boiler currently in club certificate - we have also tested it and issued new commercial certification.
On test the engine ran in either direction with some blow by past the pistons, which will require re-packing at some stage. The safety valves work reliably, the offside injector and hand pump are effective at putting water into the boiler. Neither the nearside injector nor axle pump appear to do a great deal, the pump having a bypass valve mounted underneath the reverser, making it almost completely inaccessible when driving.
The original pressure gauge read low against our master gauge and has been replaced; the steam blower is rather feeble and struggles to draw the fire when required - it needs either a bigger nozzle, pipe or valve. Or possibly all three...
Offered as a running restoration - a well built engine originally that still presents nicely with bright paintwork, usable as is but would benefit from ongoing improvement between runs.
