An early stage 5 inch gauge "Britannia", built by a man who spent many years tuning and racing various classic motorcycles - including one of the supremely handsome "Manx" Nortons - both on the Isle of Man and mainland short circuits. Now well into his seventies, he's only recently retired from the sport.
The Britannia was started as a retirement project and shows the same attention to detail as must have been required to prepare his racing machines.
Work to date is to a high standard, and comprises:
- Complete tender, painted and lined
- Commercial CE-marked silver soldered copper boiler by G.B.Boilers
- Erected frames with gunmetal horns
- Front bogie truck
- Rear pony truck
- Machined driving wheels, axles and gunmetal axleboxes with SKF sealed roller bearings
- Piston valve cylinder assemblies
- Smokebox
- Unmachined castings including chimney, dome, smokebox door and front ring, dummy springs
- Laser profiled parts including smoke deflectors
- Set etched nameplates/number plates/works plates
Parts and castings for this design are available from Blackgates Engineering.
