Completed in 2004, this Britannia was built from a kit by an experienced model engineer who, having sorted out the problems associated with the design, was that inspired that he subsequently part-exchanged it in for a 7 1/4 inch gauge version of the same engine.
Silver-soldered copper boiler with superheaters, working pressure 90psi, feed by twin injectors and axle pump with auxiliary hand pump in the tender. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Waschaert's valve gear, screw reverser in cab. Twin mechanical lubricators. The original cab fittings have been replaced with good quality proprietary items, twin three-cock water gauges are fitted.
The engine steams freely - Steve had a brief outing at his club with it last week and it's done a couple of hours running here. Injectors and pumps work well, the engine pulls strongly in forward gear, less convincing going backwards.
