The original locomotives were built between 1045 and 1952, based on a pre-war LMS design. 12098 saw service with the National Coal Board before being withdrawn and scrapped, although several members of the class survived into preservation, including sister engine 12099, based at the Severn Valley Railway.
A well-detailed, scratch-built model in good running order, the locomotive is driven by four motors geared to the axles - two on the front, one each on the other two - powered by a pair of 36Ah, 12V batteries with Catena Systems controller.
Fitted with a horn; lights front and rear run from a separate 9V battery. Controls are all mounted on a well laid-out and neatly wired dashboard at the rear - complete with lovely period volt and ammeter - falling readily to hand when driving.
