5 inch gauge GWR 47XX 2-8-0 - stock code 10181

A 5 inch gauge GWR 47XX 2-8-0, Churchward's heavy mixed traffic design introduced in 1919.

This one has recently arrived with us from the family of the late owner, it's been stored - apparently unused - for many years.

In "barn find" condition with tired paintwork, the engine will require work to recommission for use, including:

  • Service seized regulator
  • Attention to pistons and/or valves, which pass air when running
  • Service/replace water gauge and clack valves which are heavily scaled
  • Free off seized firehole doors
  • Make and fit pins for motionwork

We've done an initial hydraulic test on the boiler at 200psi for 100psi working pressure - it is dry throughout, with no deflection of plates, we would warranty it as sound.

The engine runs on air in forwards gear - only two clear beats per revolution of the wheels, however it will tick over slowly.
