The only engine from the Keith Massey collection that has had any serious use, this 5 inch gauge Quarry Hunslet was completed in 1979 and ran for several years at the Brookside Miniature Railway he ran with a friend. Mechanically it's still in remarkable condition - the absence of wear in the motionwork and valvegear suggests the builder either maintained it meticulously during its running life or overhauled it once it had been retired. Paintwork is showing its age.
Silver soldered copper boiler with superheaters, 80psi working pressure, feed by injector and axle pump. Cast iron cylinders with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear, pole reverser in the cab. Rod-operated drain cocks. Mechanical lubricator.
