Pictures opposite and words below are from last year - the engine remains in the same condition as when last here.
A finely built 5 inch gauge A3 Pacific No.60037 "Hyperion". Unusually it's finished to late specification with BR livery, double chimney and German style smoke deflectors when virtually every other A3 we see - from gauge 1 to 7 1/4 inch - are modelled in the pre-war, LNER style (we sold a super 3 1/2 inch gauge example back in 2021 if you'd like to compare the two).
The engine has come to us as part of a small collection of fine models as the owner - a professional model builder and restorer - downsizes in retirement. It has been fastidiously maintained and, whilst very much a working engine which has seen regular club use, remains in good condition throughout.
Complete with club history, the boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests in recent days, with new certification issued. On test it went as well as it looks, running with the typical rapid, mellifluous beat characteristic of Gresley's three cylinder Pacifics.
