A new, unsteamed 5 inch gauge LNER L1. The work of a highly experienced model engineer, a man who spent a forty year career teaching woodwork and metalwork at schools in Yorkshire and latterly Oxfordshire.
Work is to a high standard throughout; the boiler has had a twice working pressure shell test, the chassis runs very well on air -
there's some video of it here. Machining is very crisp, fit and finish of motionwork and valve gear excellent.
Paintwork is, well... green. It's a utilitarian finish, the engine would amply repay painting and lining in authentic livery, with the potential to make a very fine example of this large tank locomotive - all the power of a main line tender engine, with none of that tedious stretching over a tender!
There will be some work required to commission for steaming, including sealing various fittings on the boiler which have simply been screwed in on assembly (we use PTFE paste), attention to a leaky regulator, and fitting a pressure gauge.
