A 5 inch gauge LNER V1 to Martin Evan's "Enterprise" design, completed in 2003.
Silver soldered copper boiler with superheaters, working pressure 100psi, feed by twin injectors with auxiliary handpump in the nearside tank. Three cylinders in cast iron with piston valves actuated by Gresley-Holcroft conjugated gear with screw reverser in cab. There is a substantial mechanical lubricator underneath the cab floor with separate feeds for each cylinder.
The engine is well-built, fit and finish of the motionwork is very good, tight and in pretty-much as-new condition. There are some nice touches, including access holes in the side tanks to allow access to the blowdown valves. Platework for the cab and bunker is slightly buckled in places.
The engine runs well with the soft, even beats typical of Gresley three-cylinder engines - it notches up well and pulls strongly, helped in no small measure by the substantial adhesive weight.
