A well-made LNER J39 in 5 inch gauge, built to Martin Evan's "Stratford" design written up in "Model Engineer" starting in 1982.
Silver-soldered copper boiler with two superheater flues (the design calls for radiant superheaters), regulator fitted. Inside cylinder chassis, piston valves above cylinders actuated by Stephenson's valve gear with screw reverser in cab.
The tender is largely complete.
The motionwork was well-oiled many years ago and is grubby but cleans up bright simply by wiping over with a rag. The chassis runs very well on air.
