The work of a talented model engineer, a man now well into retirement who has scratch-built, kit-built, overhauled and commissioned countless engines over his lifetime, some of which I’ve been fortunate to have bought in the past, including his 5 inch gauge GWR King, 7 ¼ inch gauge LNER B1 and Romulus.
Completed in 2002 to Martin
Evans’ “Simplex” design, the engine has been infrequently used and remains
in excellent mechanical order. Paintwork is in unlined black, presentable
although with some minor abrasion to the top surface of the boiler where hot
grit from the chimney has got at it.
Silver-soldered boiler with
superheaters, feed by axle, hand pump & injector . Cast iron cylinders with
slide valves actuated by Walschaert’s gear, screw reverser in cab.
Fit and finish on this one is good, a nice example of this popular club locomotive - it runs particularly well.
