A very well made specimen of LBSC's popular "Speedy" design for the Great Western 15xx tank engine, complete with storage stand and matching braked driving/passenger truck.
Silver soldered copper boiler, fed by axle pump and injector, with auxiliary hand pump in side tank. Piston valve cylinders actuated by Walschaert's valve gear with mechanical lubricator in front of the smokebox, pole reverser and drain cock lever in cab.
The driving trolley has a water tank and coal bunker, the engine is plumbed up to draw injector water from this tank. The trolley runs on cast iron framed bogies and has a detachable backrest.
The storage stand runs on castors allowing it to be moved around the workshop easily. A locking bar runs across the footplate, secured by wingnuts, to stop the engine moving about.
With a new boiler certificate, the engine has just been tested and runs very well. A powerful, free-steaming design, Speedy is pretty much an ideal introduction to 5 inch gauge.
