A 7 1/4 inch gauge "Hercules" to the Dick Simmonds design - parts and drawings are still available from Reeves, they describe it as suitable for "heavy and continuous service". Certainly the ones we've had in the past would bear this out, it's a large, powerful design with generous bearing surfaces.
Â
This one appears to have been little used from new. It's been well-built, if somewhat flamboyantly painted in a rather eye-popping shade of "Thomas" blue.
It has a commercially-built, CE-marked boiler by Western Steam in excellent condition, we had the engine running up and down outside the works last week. Steams well and runs quietly - if somewhat asthmatically - with some blow-by on the valves.
Â
Complete with a large bogie passenger/driving truck.
