A well-advanced 7 1/4 inch gauge Hunslet Penrhyn class 2-4-0 "Linda", based on the preserved prototype running, with sister "Blanche", on the Ffestiniog Railway. This engine has been in build from many years - the last owner inherited the project nearly twenty five years ago from a friend who had started it.
Work to date comprises a largely complete rolling chassis with much of the motion work and valve gear made, some of it assembled. Copper boiler is silver soldered, it's (just) a two man lift. Saddle tank is in brass, remainder of platework and tender is in sheet steel.
One of my favourite engines since 1969 when I first visited the FR (standing in the booking office with No.2 son recently I remarked to the young lady selling us a ticket that it was nearly fifty years since I first holidayed in Porthmadog with my parents - both she and son looked at me as if I was an ancient monument) - I think the steeply raked cylinders give the class an immensely purposeful air. Rarely modelled in any gauge, I suspect there are a handful in this gauge running.
