His intention was to rebuild it to prototypical three cylinder form, however the recent arrival at his workshop of a fine 7 1/4 inch gauge LMS "Jubilee" requiring finishing has shot that fox, so this one has come back to us along with three other locomotives.
Untouched since he took delivery, it's in the same condition now as when last it was here. Pictures opposite and words below are from that time.
A 7 1/4 inch gauge "Royal Scot", built to the two cylinder Greenly/Bassett Lowke design based on Fowler's original "unrebuilt" locomotive.
A well-built engine, it was bought by the last owner in 2005 to run on his garden railway.
Shortly after purchase the boiler failed, so a new one was commissioned from Swindon Boilers and fitted. The locomotive had occasional use thereafter until the owner's work took him abroad, after which it was stored in an outhouse for several years until we collected it in early 2019.
Paintwork is faded in a rather elegant way - the livery looks vintage rather than worn out!
In steam it runs asthmatically - it will likely require rings for pistons and/or valve bobbins - however the chassis is in good mechanical order, the boiler remains in excellent condition.
