A ModelWorks "Likamobile" steam car, completed earlier this year and complete with all documentation including build instructions and original boiler certificate. It includes the latest modifications from Steam Traction World, developed in light of their epic Lands End to John O'Groats run with the factory demonstrator.
We managed to waste most of a day whizzing around the industrial estate on this one - I think in the end everybody got a go (including Karl next door, who spends most of his spare time racing Porsches at highly elevated speeds ), there's some video of it here. It runs at 250psi, raising steam from cold in under ten minutes. For the rally field, it's the ideal toy for those who want to play with steam yet not end up filthy at the end of the day - it's a civilised thing to fire up and run, the fully-automatic boiler effectively looking after itself when in steam, with a discreetly hidden away electronic control board monitoring water level and controlling the burner.
Runs on ordinary heating oil contained in a tank under the driver's feet, water is carried in a tank at the rear.
The rather period-looking numberplate is simply decorative, formed from the builder's initials.
