A 3 inch scale Maxitrak Aveling & Porter steam tractor - we've had several of these in over the years, they're free-steaming, easy to drive engines with a remarkable turn of speed in high gear. With rubber tyres fitted as standard, they are a capable, comfortable engine to use on the road.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 100psi working pressure, feed by mechanical and hand pumps. Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser, mechanical lubricator. Two road speeds.

Complete with a driving/passenger trolley on pneumatic-tyred wheels. There is also a canopy for the engine - removed in the photographs as it makes driving easier (and it would be a dull old life if we couldn't play with some of these toys from time to time...)
