In a scale dominated by Hughes'  excellent \"Royal Chester\" design, finding engines other than Allchins  is somewhat difficult. Finding something as technically interesting as a Burrell  compound, authentically detailed and beautifully built is something else again.\u003c\/p\u003e  \u003cp align=\"left\"\u003eCopper silver soldered boiler, fed by crank-driven mechanical  pump with bypass and injector. Twin Salter safety valves. Compound cylinder,  using Burrell's single crank system with two pistons connected to a common  crosshead, with a crossbar similarly tying the pair of valve rods together. The  block is authentically modelled and includes a simpling valve for double high  working when starting. Mechanical lubricator mounted to rear of cylinder.\u003c\/p\u003e  \u003cp align=\"left\"\u003eTwo speed transmission with mechanical band brake to the back  axle, winch drum behind the left hand rear wheel with tender-mounted fairleads.\u003c\/p\u003e  \u003cp align=\"left\"\u003eThe engine is beautifully proportioned and extremely well  detailed - virtually everything bar the pressure gauge has been scratch-built,  including the scale control valves. The paint finish shows signs of its age but  is original - I think the somewhat faded look adds a great deal to the engine.\u003c\/p\u003e  \u003cp align=\"left\"\u003eThe model spent most of its life on display in a shop window -  the previous owner again only kept it to look at (and nothing wrong in that).
