The engine   has been on display, unused since last it was here - it has still only been   steamed once, by the builder in 1996. Pictures and words below are from 2014.\u003c\/font\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e     A finely-built 5 inch gauge Midland 990 Class 4-4-0, designed by Deeley in the late nineteenth century.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e    The work of a talented professional engineer, he was also responsible for several other particularly good 5 inch   gauge engines, including the \u003ca href=\"\/products\/5-inch-gauge-gwr-saint-stock-code-4042\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eGreat Western 4-6-0 \"Saint George\"\u003c\/a\u003e (which, by one of those strange coincidences, arrived back at our workshop last week on the same day as this one - we'd last sold it back in 2010), \u003ca href=\"\/products\/5-inch-gauge-gnr-atlantic-stock-code-3667\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eGreat Northern Atlantic\u003c\/a\u003e, LNER A3 \"Sceptre\", a Great Western King built to commission and a Great Western Pannier tank.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e    Silver soldered copper boiler, 100 psi working pressure, four element radiant superheaters, feed by twin injectors with hand pump in the tender. Cast iron cylinders with piston valves actuated by Deeley gear with screw reverser in the cab, complete with locking lever. Sight feed lubricator.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e     The engine was completed in 1996, the boiler had its initial twice working pressure test at the builder's club, who issued a certificate for same (the boiler inspector was actually the man responsible for the superb \u003ca href=\"\/products\/5-inch-gauge-midland-4-2-2-princess-of-wales-stock-code-6181\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\"Princess of Wales\"\u003c\/a\u003e currently listed). The engine was then steamed once, up on   blocks to check valve events, after which it was displayed on a stand in the builder's hall - it's been there ever since.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e     Apart from some light sooting in the firebox and smokebox, the engine is in ex-works condition, mechanically as new.
