5-inch-gauge-peckett-saddle-tank-stock-code-3891
5 inch gauge Peckett saddle tank

I don't recognise the design this has been built to - its boiler certificate describes it as a Peckett, although I suspect you could put the same description on anything with four wheels and a saddle tank.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 80psi working pressure, feed by injector and axle pump. Cast iron cylinders with inside slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser in cab. Mechanical lubricator.

The cab roof and rear are removeable for driving - the roof fits in a pretty hit and miss way when in position. Paintwork is pretty horrible, the engine has suffered from the common "if it's brass polish it" regime that afflicts many models engineers - the whole thing really wants painting front to back in a more suitable and all-covering livery, simply imagining a solid brass chimney scaled up to full-size on an industrial tank engine gives you the shudders.

Steve steamed it this afternoon, it runs well but both injector and axle pump offer opportunities for improvement...

Complete with a club certificate, hydraulic test expiring in 2013, steam test in March of next year.

Length 22 inches
Weight 50 pounds
