A great livery and unmistakable looks give this one a good deal of presence (it's twelve foot length possibly contributes too...)

Pictures opposite were taken earlier today, words below are from 2011, as is the video (which shows, if nothing else, just how much cameras have come on in the last fourteen years).

An EMD F7, built from the Maxitrak kit and, unusually, including a “B” car – in full size a booster unit, in the model it provides space for another battery.

The prototypical locomotives were built in the 1950s with many still working into the 70s – several survive in preservation.

I took this one out to the club earlier in the week and enjoyed it rather more than expected – yes, it's a huge great thing when you're sat behind it, but moving it about with the batteries removed means no individual part is heavier than a small tank engine.

Powered by a battery in each car, the A car bogies are each driven by a single motor, with belt drive to all four wheels - there are motors and gears included to convert the B car to a powered unit if required.

There is a good sound card fitted, which can be muted if required, an auxiliary horn keeping it legal for club running where "an audible warning of approach" is a requirement.

Once coupled together on the track, it makes an imposing sight. Quick and powerful, it would make a useful addition at club public running days.
