This engine has been  kicking around for a long time, probably under a bench where a good deal of  swarf and sawdust has mingled with the oil to produce a rather horrible  preservative poultice around most of the bits. At some stage in its life it  appears that somebody painted the chassis, then later attacked it with paint  stripper.
