tyzack-lathe-for-restoration-stock-code-2539
Tyzack lathe for restoration

There have been loads of companies built small model engineer's lathes in the last seventy years, most were fairly forgettable designs whose passing was rarely mourned. One of the more successfull products, which at one time seemed to get almost as much "air time" in the Model Engineer as Drummond and the other big players was Tyzack. They had a name for good design, although expensive to produce (and, hence, buy).

It's a shame when such a tool gets into a condition like this. However, underneath the (fairly light) rust and filth, there is a decent machine, free of bodgery and broken castings. It's a back-geared, screwcutting machine, just over 3 inches centre height and about 16 inches between centres, it has a top slide for taper turning. There is a layshaft and single phase motor with it - the motor looks ancient and would need to be checked before use.

A worthwhile restoration project, it would give a boy a good start in model engineering.

I have advertised this before and had several enquiries, most of which have foundered on weight and shipping. I would prefer collection - it weighs about a hundredweight and a half - but at a push it could be strapped up on a pallet or in a crate. However, shipping is likely to cost at least as much as the lathe itself.
