A compound launch engine with Stephenson's reversing gear, from a builder who has made many of the Stuart engines, along with the technically interesting Atkinson steam wagon in 3 inch scale and a rather nice 2 inch scale Fowler A7.
Although it is nicely made, the engine has been built with rather tight tolerances - in particular the LP piston could use a thou or two more clearance in the bore. It is not nasty and notchy (which is what you tend to get with a badly made engine), just tighter than required for a new engine. The piston could be removed and relieved a little, although my first option would be to run it in gently on air for a few hours.
