A vintage "RandA" lathe, built by Ross & Alexander of Bishopsgate, London.
Essentially a pre-war design, these were marketed by, amongst others, Gamages until the mid fifties.
Rather a lovely old thing, which has been kept in good condition this last seventy or eighty years. It's back-geared, with screwcutting capability - there is a set of change wheels, along with a pair of three jaw chucks and a face plate.
Flat belt drive - almost certainly originally treadle-powered it's at some stage been converted to run from an electric motor.
The "Gryphon" 1/4hp single phase motor shown in the pictures runs quietly, however it will require checking - along with its associated wiring - by an electrician before use.
