3 1/2 inch gauge "Tich" 0-4-0T

A 3 1/2 inch gauge large-boilered "Tich" to the LBSC design; the engine came in recently as a part exchange, following a recent overhaul by the previous owner.

His record of the work done includes:

  • New phosphor bronze pistons with Viton O-rings
  • New mechanical lubricator
  • New buffers
  • Rebuilt axle pump
  • New turret and all new pipework
  • New platework and cylinder covers
  • Rebuilt reverser stand
  • New axle springs
  • New cast iron grate, rebuilt ashpan
  • New safety valve, blower valve and whistle
  • Boiler lagged
  • Repainted

On completion of the overhaul it was club tested, although curiously for 70psi working - designed for 80psi working, "Tich" needs every psi it can get given the size of the cylinders! We've re-tested the boiler and certified for the higher pressure.

The engine steams well and runs in both directions. The overhaul didn't get as far as the moving parts apparently, the motionwork and valve gear having generous amounts of wear throughout.

Safety valve is once of the nicest we've seen, it opens and closes with satisfying precision (and very little loss of pressure).

Complete with spare grate, coupling bar, drawings and a copy of "Simple Locomotive Building - introducing LBSC's Tich".
