5 inch gauge Bengal Nagpur Railway 2-8-2T

A 5 inch gauge North British 2-8-2T locomotive, one of a class built for the Bengal Nagpur Railway in the 1920s.

An unusual model, by the same builder as the pretty Dubs tank we've recently sold, it was made using his own drawings, patterns and castings.

Not run in recent years, it's recently come to us as part of the builder's downsizing - a man in his ninth decade, he's now concentrating on slightly more manageable size locomotives (although he remains an enthusiast for rare and oddball designs, a British Railway Standard Class 2-8-2 "might have been" currently on his bench).

The engine has a copper boiler with radiant superheaters - a copiously leaking wet header joint prevented any meaningful attempt at a hydraulic test, it will need stripping to investigate.

Completed in 2005, the model was exhibited at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition the following year, with a picture and writeup in "Engineering in Miniature".

Complete with past club boiler history and a copy of the EIM article.
