5 inch gauge LNER B1

One of those engines where first appearances are deceptive. Beneath this half-repainted B1 to Martin Evans' "Springbok" design is a particularly well-made engine, in fine mechanical order and one that impressed us in the workshop with its performance. Built in 1993, the locomotive went on to take "Best Locomotive in Show" at the club's annual jambouree in 1995.

Silver soldered copper boiler by Kingswood Boilers, working pressure 100psi, feed by twin injectors with hand pump in the tender. Piston valve cylinders, Walschaert's gear with screw reverser in cab, sight feed lubricators. Motionwork has been nicely machined, correctly fluted out and is in good order - the engine runs very nicely.

The engine needs a repaint - apart from the subtle discrepancy in shade between locomotive and tender, the green paint on the boiler is in dull, rough condition - but the underlying build quality and good mechanical condition would more than repay that work.
